About Devil May Cry 3 Game
Devil May Cry 3, is the second sequel to the popular video game. It was released in 2005 by Capcom after heavy criticism for the first sequel. Let’s take a closer look at this video game.
The original game was very popular. But the second game didn’t do so well. So when Capcom made the Devil May Cry 3 they returned to many of the elements that made the first video game such a success. It was harder, and had a completely revamped fighting engine along with huge 3D worlds. The game sold 1.3 million units around the world. It was considered a financial success. Game Informer rated it #1 for 2005. No other game could match its battle engine. There were versions for the PC and PS2.
A hero, Dante, battles some demons his brother Vergil sends against him. When Dante defeats these creatures, a giant tower erupts out of the ground near his shop. He senses his brother somewhere in the tower. He then enters the tower fighting various demons and monsters whose life energy transforms into weapons after he defeats them. These weapons are useful on subsequent levels.
But in the course of fighting through the tower and battling his brother, Dante learns that a man named Arkham is manipulating them in order to reactivate the tower, steal a powerful sword from the demon world, and use it to rule over the earth. Dante and Vergil eventually defeat the Arkham, then fight over the powerful sword, called the Force Edge. Dante wins the sword, and his brother chooses to stay behind in the demon world.
The plot is thin, but it drives the action from level to level and boss to boss. Each level is harder than the last. In Japan the game had a hard mode, which was quite difficult. But it was only the middle difficulty in North America. They bumped up difficulty from there, culminating in a nearly impossible hard level in North America. Even reviewers who liked the game criticized its difficulty.
This shows the difficulty of making video games. The first sequel had been criticized for being too easy. Capcom adjusted by increasing the difficulty of Devil May Cry 3 only to have that one criticized for being too difficult. Sometimes it’s to the point that if a video game creator could walk on water people would complain that he doesn’t know how to swim.
Devil May Cry 3 is old news now, but it was a big deal in its day.
